Prince George RCMP arrest two offenders after brief search

A pair of known offenders were arrested after fleeing from the Prince George RCMP.

Just before 11:00 am on January 20th, Frontline Officers were on routine patrol on the Hart Highway near Houghtaling Road, when they observed a pickup truck committing several motor vehicle infractions.

Police say when they initiated a traffic stop with the vehicle, it fled at a high rate of speed, despite icy road conditions.

Mounties did not pursue, but began to patrol areas near where they last observed it traveling.

The vehicle was located again a short time later, and officers successfully deployed a spike belt, with the vehicle coming to a stop a short distance later when it crashed into a snowbank while trying to further avoid police.

Both the driver and passenger were arrested for multiple offences, and a search of the occupants and the vehicle located suspected fentanyl and drug paraphernalia, as well as a loaded firearm and ammunition. The drugs and firearms were seized for analysis.

“Both suspects were subsequently released, pending the laboratory results of evidence seized, which is a standard practice when evidence requires testing by outside partner agencies,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

The investigation is ongoing.
