The provincial government is establishing a registry for all short-term rentals across B-C.
Anyone operating a short-term rental and listing on platforms, such as Airbnb and VRBO, will be required to register with the province.
They’ll receive a registration number which will have to be displayed on all their listings as of May 1st.
Those who don’t comply will have their listings removed as of June 1st.
Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon says the goal is to rein in speculators who buy up much-needed houses only to rent them out.
Kahlon says the move should provide more long-term homes for people who need them.
