School District 57 Trustees were given a presentation on Numeracy Initiatives to improve student success.
In creating a plan, the Numeracy Committee looked through three components, including data, direction, and development.
During the meeting on Tuesday, it was noted that adjustments are needed to be made as the proficiency mark isn’t being met, but is a trend being seen across North America.
Ways the Committee will look to tackle the issue is developing a district wide set of principles laying out the numeracy instruction foundation, and supporting teachers to transform math instruction.
Some initiatives already taking place include collaboration blocks, classroom supports, and Numeracy Nights.
Board Vice Chair, Erica McLean said the work being done is not only positive, but encouraging.
The full presentation can be found on School District 57’s website here, with the full meeting video on their YouTube.
