It was the Liam McCloskey show in Vernon as the Prince George Spruce Kings upset the Vernon Vipers 4-3 tonight (Sat).
The Vipers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes thanks to power play goals from Colton McCarthy and Odeen Tufto.
Prince George would score a pair of their own in the second off the sticks of Corey Hoffman and Cavin Tilsely.
The Spruce Kings would then score two more in the third courtesy of power play markers from Braiden Epp and Adam Brubacher.
Colton McCarthy would score his second of the game on the man advantage to make it 4-3 at the end of 60 minutes.
Prince George went 3 for 3 on the power play while Vernon went 3 for 8.
Liam McCloskey was the game’s first star after making 46 saves to help the Spruce Kings improve to 2-7-0-1.
Spruce Kings return to action tomorrow against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
–The Spruce Kings have acquired 18 year old forward Jordan Funk and future considerations from the Fort McMurray Oil Barons in return for Cole Todd.
Funk notched three goals and nine assists in 26 games with the Surrey Eagles last season.
Funk, who is listed at 6’1” and 185lbs, played his first game with P.G. in the 4-3 victory in Vernon.
