Public hearings on two changes to the Workers Compensation Act across BC have begun.
Worksafe BC says this is a chance for stakeholders to comment either in person at their local hearing, or through written submission.
WorkSafe will now have the ability to level small fines to a maximum $1000 at work places that do not comply with safety orders.
The other change requires a preliminary investigation into an incident within 48 hours, and a full investigation within 30 days.
“Aside from being part of the regulatory process, and a requirement in the (Workers Compensation) Act for us to hold a public hearing, it really is an opportunity for stakeholders to be in touch with us,” says Worksafe’s Lori Guiton, “It also gives them an opportunity to supply written submissions if they are unable to attend.”
Prince George’s hearings will run at the Coast in of the North on October 13th from 3-5 and 7-9pm.
