Care packages donated to those in need for the holidays in Prince George

St. Vincent de Paul Society gave some festive cheer with the help of three organizations.

The BC Lottery Corporation, Treasure Cove Casino, and the City of Prince George provided the society with 250 care packages, including a warm blanket, socks, toiletries and treats.

St. Vincent de Paul Society President, Bernie Gould said in a news release “their help means we can connect more community members to the kinds of items that are always useful, needed and are also soul-nourishing, especially during the holidays.”

Volunteers from the three organizations, including Mayor Simon Yu and Councillor Garth Frizzell helped bundle and deliver the items on December 6th, and assist in preparing and serving lunch for the society’s clients.

BCLC Manager of Social Purpose and Stakeholder Engagement, Jordan O’Genski said “The St. Vincent de Paul Society of Prince George already receives funds through the Community Gaming Grants program, but we wanted to do more to spark that vitally important sense of human connection, especially this time of year.”

Last year, the society received $60,000 through the Province’s grant program, distributing gambling revenues to non-profit-community based organizations.
