The Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department was called out to a transport truck fire early this (Tuesday) morning.
Duty Officer Bart Schneider says they were called to the Co-op Cardlock off of Highway 97 at Quesnel-Hixon Road just after one o’clock.
“The truck was unfortunately fully involved. When we got there the cab was completely burnt up and the only person that was involved was the driver and his dog. The driver was seen by BC Ambulance and released to RCMP for making accommodations for the rest of the night.”
Schneider says the driver and his dog barely made it out.
“He didn’t try to put it out. He just managed to get out in such a short period of time. He actually was sleeping and woke up to fire and flames in the cab and he just evacuated quite literally with the socks on his feet.”
Schneider says the man was checked out by BC Ambulance for potential smoke inhalation before being released.
He says the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Schneider says they responded with three apparatus and seven people, and they were on scene for about an hour and a half.
