The annual safe ride campaign Operation Red Nose is launching for the holiday season in Prince George.
The free volunteer service has seen a successful 25 years in the community, making sure everyone gets home safe after a night out.
Co-Chair, Garth Frizzell says they took on 905 rides just last year.
“It’s likely to grow. During the pandemic, it was shut down for two years so, now that we came back a little lower than normal even last year, and that’s 900 rides, we’re expecting our volunteers to be very busy, and we always need new volunteers.”
Frizzell says they’re up to around 75 volunteers but would like to have between 100 to 125.
Co-Chair Dolly Hilton says donations received for youth groups have been good, going towards groups like AiMHi’s and RCMP Victim Services’ youth programs, and providing helmets for the Prince George Spruce Kings.
Operation Red Nose begins its service on November 29th, running every Friday and Saturday except the final day on Tuesday, December 31st.
