Emergency test alert to be sent to cellphones, TV, and radios today

Compatible cell phones, TVs, and radios will be sent an emergency alert test today (Wednesday).

The alert, sent out by the province, is tested twice a year to improve public safety in the event of an emergency.

The message on cell phones will read:

“This is a TEST of the BC Emergency Alert System. This is ONLY a TEST. In an emergency, this message would tell you what to do to stay safe. This information could save your life. Click for more info: www.emergencyinfobc.ca/test. This is ONLY a TEST. No action is required.”

The test will interrupt radio and television broadcasts and is expected to be sent out at 1:55 this afternoon.
