Alex Ovechkin scored twice, before leaving with a reported leg injury in the Washington Capitals 6-2 victory over Utah.

The 39-year-old Ovechkin needs 27 more goals to break Wayne Gretzky’s all-time NHL record of 894.

The (9-5-3) Vancouver Canucks conclude a 6-game homestand tonight at 7:00 against the (11-4-1) New York Rangers.

It is one of seven Tuesday games in the NHL.

The Prince George Cougars host the Kamloops Blazers Friday night at 7:00 to conclude a 6-game homestand.

High School Football:

The College Heights Cougars play Vernon Saturday morning at 11:00 at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver in the Provincial High School Football AA varsity semifinals.

College Heights advanced following a 22-15 victory over Holy Cross in the quarterfinals.

Canada West Basketball

The UNBC Timberwolves host the UBC-Okanagan Heat Friday night at 6:00 (women) and 8:00 (men) and Saturday night at 5:00 and 7:00 in the Timberwolves final league games until January 10th.

UNBC is 1-5 (women) and 0-6 (men).

UBCO is 3-3 (women) and 2-4 (men).
