A “Healing Fire” was held in front of the Prince George Courthouse today (Wednesday), put on by several different organizations.
“It’s a bunch of organizations coming out and showing the support for our most vulnerable people downtown,” said Alexandria West, Executive Director of the Positive Living North Society.
“It’s just all about collaboration, support, and creating those safe spaces that are welcoming, and keeping people warm and fed.”
West noted Carrier Sekani Family Services and other organizations typically plan Healing Fires every month.
“It gives us a chance to connect with people, see what their needs are, if there’s any need for warming supplies, jackets,” she said.
“Just to have that warm meal to share together, I think as an Indigenous organization at Positive Living North, we really value sharing that meal together, it creates that sense of community when you eat together.”
Warming kits were handed out to those in attendance as well.
