School District 57 trustee Brenda Hooker has officially stepped down as vice-chair after taking a job in Fort St. John, but she will still be a familiar site at monthly board meetings, as she will continue her role as trustee.
“A trustee role is more of a part-time position that is more of a governance oversight role,” explains Hooker, “It’s quite common in other districts for trustees to work away from the district that they represent.”
She plans on attending SD-57 monthly meetings in person, and will stay in touch using technology for other matters.
“The trustee role is very important to me, and it was really important to be able to continue in that role, even though my personal employment means working away. I have a foot in both communities, I’m back and forth an awful lot, but I’m really enjoying the role up there.”
Trustee Tim Bennett will now serve as vice-chair until the Board votes for a new candidate in December.
