Cougars acquire defenceman from Calgary

Some help on the blueline is on the way for the Prince George Cougars.

Today (Thursday), the WHL club acquired 18-year-old Fraser Leonard from the Calgary Hitmen in exchange for Drew Peterson and a sixth-round pick in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft.

Leonard posted nine points in 59 games last season with Calgary. In five games this year, he was held pointless.

Leonard was originally selected by the Saskatoon Blades 68th overall in 2021. He was also a teammate of Cougars star forward Terik Parascak when they played at the Edge School U18 program in Calgary.

The 18-year-old is expected to join the Cats when they visit the Kamloops Blazers tomorrow night (Friday) at Sandman Centre.
