Prince George City Council has kept their purse strings tighter when it comes to the Council Contingency Fund this year.
The fund may be used at Council’s discretion for one-time expenses that may arise, including, but not limited to, City services and financial assistance requests.
For 2024, the fund was set at $75,000, and what is unspent carries over into the City’s surplus at year-end.
According to a report presented to Council at last night’s meeting, City Council has only used $32,000 through the first three quarters of this year:
In the same time frame in 2023, City Council had spent $60,800.
At last night’s meeting, a motion was put on the floor to refer an idea to roll over the remaining funds at the end of the year into the fund for the following year or into the City’s grant stream to Council’s Standing Committee on Finance and Audit, but it was defeated.
