Pountney taking a positive approach after first run in provincial politics

BC NDP Prince George-Valemount runner-up Clay Pountney is holding his head up high after falling short against Rosalyn Bird of the BC Conservatives.

Poutney, who claimed 5,555 votes (34.68%) of the vote told MyPGNow.com that his first foray into provincial politics was a positive experience.

“I had over 5,000 supporters, which is amazing. This is my first run up here – I don’t know what the future holds but like I said, it’s not really a disappointment. I have met so many good people along the way and it’s been an amazing experience.”

“I am known up here a little bit I guess now and like I said, this is very new so we will kind of have to see. I have always believed in my community and anyone who actually steps up and does something like this, I have to tip my hat off to them for sure.”

Bird who claimed 55.44% of the vote, takes over for longtime representative Shirley Bond who elected not to run in this year’s election after BC United suspended its campaign.

Elsewhere, Kiel Giddens of the BC Conservatives secured the Prince George-Mackenzie riding with 61.12% of the vote defeating Shar McCrory of the BC NDP who was a distant second at 28% support.

In Nechako Lakes, Conservative Leader John Rustad coasted to his sixth term in Victoria dispatching Murphy Abraham of the NDP securing 67.70% of the vote.

Lastly, Sheldon Claire concluded the wave of Tory blue upsetting incumbent Independent MLA Coralee Oakes in PG-North Cariboo.

Claire tallied 11,262 votes – roughly 7-thousand more than Oakes.
