BC NDP Vancouver-Renfrew candidate Adrian Dix says the Prince George Urgent and Primary Care Centre will remain open if re-elected.
Since being elected in 2017, Dix has held the role of Health Minister.
“If elected, we will absolutely be keeping the Prince George Urgent and Primary Care Centre open. It is one of the most successful UPCCs in all of BC, and plays a vital role in ensuring the people of Prince George and the region get faster access to the care they need.
“We’re also taking action to strengthen healthcare for Prince George and Northern BC by expanding the University Hospital of Northern BC, building a new helipad, and providing a new helicopter ambulance to make emergency travel as fast and smooth as possible.
“John Rustad’s plan to make deep cuts to healthcare would mean cancelling healthcare projects across BC and firing doctors and nurses. Under John Rustad’s plan for American-style privatization and two-tier healthcare, people would wait longer and pay more for worse care. That’s a risk people just can’t afford.”
Prior to the writ being dropped, Dix appeared in Prince George announcing a brand new 11 floor hospital tower that is expected to be built by 2031.
The tower will add 109 new beds, pushing the hospital from 276 to 385 beds.
The plan also includes a new six-bed cardiac-care unit and a new 20-bed cardiac step-down unit, and five new operating rooms.
A 471 space parkade is currently being built next to the BC Cancer Centre for the North to help accommodate the eventual increase in traffic.
The NDP pledged the project would also include a helipad, if elected.
