More people entered the workforce in Prince George during September – however, not everyone who applied for a job was able to land employment.
That’s according to Stats Canada’s September Labour Division Survey, where PG’s unemployment rate jumped to 5.5% last month after it was 4.7 in August.
Analyst, Vince Ferrao spoke with MyPGNow.com.
“Employment is about the same, it’s about 56,400. It looks like there were a bit more people looking for work in August and September – we had 2,800 people were looking for work in August and that increased to 3,300 in September.”
Despite the jump, Ferrao noted a few sectors saw employment increases.
“There are more people working in information, culture, recreation and, as for the region as a while more people are employed in accommodation and food services compared to a year ago.”
BC’s jobless mark came in at 6.0% in September, a slight increase after it was 5.8 in August – that’s still tied for the third lowest among the provinces.
Canada added 47,000 jobs in September, dropping the rate to 6.5 per cent.
