The 44th Annual Terry Fox Run is set for Sunday in Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park.
“This is really special because part of the route really replicates Terry’s footsteps that he ran in 1979 in the Prince George to Boston Marathon, which is really special,” said Organizer Sylvia Masich.
“We get to remember his legacy, we get to recognize his connection to Prince George, and we get to raise money for cancer research, which you can never go wrong with that.”
Masich said they’ve set a loose goal of $4,000, but they’re hoping for more.
“The past couple of years have been a big rebuild year for the run in Prince George,” she explained.
“It’s gone through quite a few organizers, quite a few different routes, and so really the goal for this year is to rebuild and bring that awareness back. For me right now, it’s bring more people out to the event, and have fundraising goals later.”
She’s hoping to see at least 200 people participate.
This is Masich’s second year organizing the event.
She took the reins last year after finding out no one would be putting it on.
Registration will start at 9:00, and the run will start at 10:00.
In Vanderhoof, the Terry Fox Run will take place Sunday as well, starting at 11:00 am.
