WHL preseason: (in Edson, Alberta)

The Cougars play their final two preseason games against the Blazers; Friday (7PM) in Kamloops and Saturday (5PM) in Quesnel.

BCHL preseason:

Surrey Eagles  5  Prince George Spruce Kings 2  (Saturday in Surrey)

Prince George Spruce Kings  3  Coquitlam Express  2  (OT-Friday in Coquitlam)

The Spruce Kings host the Langley Rivermen Friday night at 7:00 and Saturday afternoon at 2:00 in their final two preseason games.

They will start their regular season on September 20th at Surrey.

The (0-4-2) UNBC men will host the Calgary Dinos Friday night at 7:30 and the MacEwan Griffens Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at Masich Place Stadium.

The (0-2) UNBC women host the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack Friday night at 5:00 and The UBC Okanagan Heat Sunday at noon at Masich Place Stadium.

BC Football Conference: (in Chilliwack)

Valley Huskers  31  Prince George Kodiaks  11  (Saturday)

The (1-6) Kodiaks host the (7-0) Okanagan Sun Saturday night at 6:00 Masich Place Stadium.

Prince George will conclude its season with a home and home against the (1-5) Kamloops Broncos: Saturday, September 28th at 6pm at Masich Place Stadium and Saturday, October 5th at 6pm in Kamloops.

NFL: (First Sunday night game of the season)

Detroit Lions  26  LA Rams  20  (OT)

The first Monday Night NFL game of the season (5:20 kickoff) has the New York Jets at the San Francisco 49ers.

CFL:

After 14 weeks of the CFL season, the (7-6) B.C. Lions are tied with the (7-6) Winnipeg Blue Bombers for top spot in the West Division.

The Lions, who have won their last two, host the (6-6) Toronto Argonauts Friday night at 7:00 to begin week 15.

The Blue Bombers are off this week.

Paralympics: (in Paris)

Team Canada finished the Paralympic Games with 29 medals; 10 Gold 9 silver and 10 bronze.

Jennifer McCreesh of Smithers was part of the Canadian Paralympic women’s sitting volleyball team that finished 3rd at the Paris Games.

They beat Brazil 3-0 in the Bronze Medal game.

The Canadian women’s wheelchair basketball team finished 4th at the Paralympics.

Canada, which included former UNBC Timberwolves basketball player, Kady Dandeneau, lost the bronze medal game 65-43 to China.

The Canadian men’s wheelchair basketball team, which included former UNBC student Bo Hedges of Fort St. John lost 75-62 to Germany in the Paralympics Bronze Medal game.

Joel Ewert of Prince George was a player with the Canadian wheelchair rugby team that finished 6th at the Paris Games.

MLB:

Atlanta Braves  4  Toronto Blue Jays  3  (11)

The (68-76) Blue Jays start a 6-game homestand tonight (Monday 4:07) against the (78-65) New York Mets.

Toronto has just 18 games left in its season.

Seattle Mariners  10  St. Louis Cardinals  4

The (73-71) Mariners begin a 9-game homestand Tuesday night at 6:40 against the
(81-64) San Diego Padres.

Seattle is in second place in the AL West, 4.5 games behind the (77-66) Houston Astros.
