The Chilcotin River Landslide Area’s evacuation order has been downgraded to an alert.
The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) issued the order for the area on July 31st, and the Chilcotin River Landslide Area 3 order, which was issued on August 9th, has also been downgraded.
Residents are able to return to the area, but asks those to be aware that landslide and river assessment is ongoing and to not interfere.
They say to prepare emotionally when returning as the community may not look the same prior to the evacuation, and be prepared in the event of a future evacuation order or alert on short notice.
The CRD asks residents to stay aware for potential additional slides or flooding, and watch for livestock and wildlife on roads, as fences may have been damaged.
Before returning, residents should fill their personal vehicle’s fuel tank, bring a minimum of three days worth of essentials including food and water, and monitor reliable news sources and CRD’s channels for evacuation orders and locations of Reception Centres.
