The Orchestra North Summer Program begins in Prince George today.
The program, which was held in Smithers until the pandemic and has since moved to Prince George, welcomes string musicians of all ages and skill levels, and intermediate to advanced brass and wind players.
Roxi Dykstra, the Orchestra North Summer Program’s Artistic Director, told My PG Now the program “gathers together and creates a meeting point for northern classical musicians to meet, learn, study, and make new connections.”
The program consists of two portions; a camp designed for all ages and abilities and a professional development program.
“Older beginners, younger advanced players, everyone is welcome to come to the camp,” Dykstra explained. “If you really want a big push and you are an advanced player, the professional development program might be a better fit. It is a much more intense program.”
Dykstra said just under 40 musicians participated in last year’s event.
Both programs will be held from August 1-5, the professional development program will put on shows in Prince George, Quesnel, and Mackenzie.
Prince George’s will be held on Saturday (August 3) at 7:30 at the Christian Reformed Church.
The camp concert will be held Monday at 6:00 at the Knox Performance Centre.
