Two Prince George athletes and a coach captured gold in Volleyball Canada’s 2024 Canada Cup.
Delaney Turner (DP Todd), and Tyler Dahl (PGSS) competed on BC’s Under 16 Women team and won gold at the national event in Calgary on Sunday (July 28).
In addition, Program Lead Chris Dahl is a Kelly Road alumni, and assistant coach Mark LaFleur is a Duchess Park teacher.
Tyler Dahl was named team MVP after they defeated team Alberta Black in the finals 3-2 in a best-of-five set.
According to LaFleur, the final match was intense: “We won the first set, dropped the next 2 sets, were behind in the 4th set but managed to come back and win, and won the 5th set 15-8.”
Team BC finished first place in their pool after sweeping Team Alberta White, Quebec, and PEI 3-0 each.
They beat Newfoundland 3-1 in the first round of playoffs and Alberta Blue 3-1 in the semifinals to advance to the finals against Alberta Black.
LaFleur said he has been coaching both Turner and Dahl since they were in grade six.
