Olympics:

Women’s soccer:

The Canadian team played without head coach Bev Priestman, who has been suspended for the Olympics because of a drone spying scandal.

Assistant Andy Spence has taken over.

Defending champion Canada plays its second game on Sunday against France.

The opening ceremonies of the Paris Olympic Games will be held today (starting at 10:30 AM PT).

The Canadian Olympic Team has a total of 337 athletes, that includes 43 from B.C. (13 of them in Athletics) that will compete in 19 sports.

39 of the Canadian athletes have captured at least one medal at previous Olympics.

 

CFL:  

Montreal  20  Saskatchewan  16

The Alouettes erased a 16-3 halftime deficit to improve their record to 6-1, best in the league.

The Roughriders fell to 5-2, tied with B.C. for top spot in the West Division.

The Lions play their next game Thursday in Winnipeg against the 5-2 Blue Bombers.

Winnipeg plays at 3-3 Toronto Saturday at 4 PM.

Tonight at 4:30: 3-3 Calgary visits 4-2 Ottawa.

BCFC:

The Prince George Kodiaks play in Victoria Saturday afternoon at 4:00 as they visit the defending champion Westshore Rebels in the BC Football Conference.

Both teams are 1-0.

Kodiaks kicker Brady Harper is the BCFC Special Teams Player of the Week after booting two field goals and three converts in the 39-34 victory over the Vancouver Island Raiders.

The (46-56) Jays are 3-3 on a 9-game homestand that will continue tonight (Friday 4:07) against the (51-52) Texas Rangers.
