As of this morning (Tuesday), the BC Wildfire Service has changed the status of the River Valley Wildfire from out of control to being held.
“Like yesterday crews are going to continue to mop up along the perimeter of the fire and continue to push deeper into the fire’s edge and further those secure control lines,” said Fire Information Officer Jeromy Corrigan.
“Aircraft is going to continue to support ground crews in their efforts. If required skimmers may also be utilized to cool the areas of the fire.”
Corrigan reminds the public that the River Valley is an active worksite and you are advised to stay away from the area to allow First Responders to continue to do their work and suppress the fire safely.
Corrigan noted in the 100 Mile House Fire Zone there are 17 active wildfires, a good portion that were started yesterday (July 22) from the thunder storm that moved through the region.
In total across the Cariboo he said BC Wildfire Service saw 24 new starts most spot fires.
“BC Wildfire crews are on a number of those wildfires and they have multiple Aviation resources being used and supporting the crews in that Fire Zone with air tankers and helicopters.
