The Antler Creek wildfire remains about three kilometres away from both Barkerville and Wells.
Jeromy Corrigan, a Fire Information Officer at the Cariboo Fire Centre, says it is still listed at 3,380 hectares in size but they believe that it has grown.
“Aircraft will be flying the fire perimeter today to determine a size and growth of the Antler Creek wildfire and all fires in the entirety of the Groundhog complex. I know there is a lot of attention right now on the Antler Creek wildfire, but the Groundhog complex has a significant amount of fires in the region, so an aircraft crew will be flying the perimeter of Antler Creek and all the fires in the complex to hopefully get some updated size on all the fires. The size of the Antler Creek wildfire is expected to increase today to reflect previous days growth and merging fires.”
Corrigan says a dedicated incident management team will be arriving at the Groundhog complex today to take over moving forward.
He says the complex saw a lot of precipitation and lighting last night.
Wells and Barkerville residents remain evacuated.
They left on Sunday.
Structure protection equipment has been set up in both communities.
