BCFC:

Prince George Kodiaks  39  Vancouver Island Raiders  34  (Saturday)

In their first game of the season the Kodiaks erased a 28-13 third quarter deficit to the delight of several hundred fans at Masich Place Stadium.

The Kodiaks play their first road game Saturday at 4 p.m. against the defending champion Westshore Rebels, who won their opener 43-27 over the Kamloops Broncos.

CFL:  (Final game in Week 7)

Calgary Stampeders  25  B.C. Lions  24

The loss ended the Lions 5-game winning streak.

The (5-2) Lions are idle until Thursday, August 1st when they visit the (2-5) Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Week 8 of the CFL season starts Thursday (4:30) with Saskatchewan at Montreal.

Both the Roughriders and Alouettes are 5-1, tied for the best record in the league.

MLB: 

Toronto Blue Jays  5  Detroit Tigers  4

The (45-54) Jays are 1-2 on a 9-game homestand that continues Tuesday night (4:07) against the (50-49) Tampa Bay Rays.

It will be Toronto’s 100th game of the season.

Golf:

Xander Schauffele won the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland for his second major in two months.

He closed with a 6-under-65 for a 9-under 275 total, two strokes better than Justin Rose and Billy Horschel, who tied for 2nd.

Top Canadian Mackenzie Hughes tied for 16th at 2-over-286, 11 shots off the pace.

The 30-year-old Schauffele, who is from San Diego, captured his first major victory at the 2024 PGA Championship in Louisville, Kentucky.
