Hockey:

Forward Riley Heidt and goalie Josh Ravensbergen of the Prince George Cougars have been invited to Canada’s World Junior Summer Showcase tournament set for July 30th to August 3rd in Windsor, Ontario and Plymouth, Michigan.

In addition, PG’s Cameron Schmidt was named to Canada’s U-18 national team selection camp roster for the Hlinka Gretzky Cup to be held in Edmonton August 5th to 10th.

Devils  12  Bandits  3

The Devils won the championship series 3-0 outscoring the Bandits by a total of 39-13.

Devils goalie Patrick Bayliss was named playoff MVP.

CFL:  

The Edmonton Elks fired head coach and General Manager Chris Jones after an 0-5 start with their five losses all one-score games.

The Elks had an 8-33 record over two-plus seasons during Jones’s second time in charge.

Geroy Simon is the new interim general manager, while Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach Jarious Jackson has taken over as the team’s interim head coach.

Week 7 begins with a pair of Friday games: (0-5) Edmonton at (3-2) Ottawa (4PM) followed by (2-4) Winnipeg at (4-1) Saskatchewan (6:30).

The (5-1) B.C. Lions play their next game Sunday (4PM) in Calgary against the (2-3) Stampeders.

The Lions are tied with (5-1) Montreal for the best record in the league.

MLB:

Center Fielder Teoscar Hernández won the MLB Home Run Derby, becoming the first Los Angeles Dodgers player to do so.

In the Derby finals, the 31-year-old Hernández defeated Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. 14 homers to 13.

The MLB All-Star game will be played tonight (Tuesday) in Arlington, Texas, home of the Rangers.

Vladdy Guerrero Jr. will be representing the Toronto Blue Jays and playing first base for the American League.

The Blue Jays return to action on Friday when they host the (47-50) Detroit Tigers (4:07PM).

Toronto is 44-52 as of the All-Star break, last in the A.L East.
