There will be no better time for an interested kid to try the sport of wrestling.
Two-time Olympic medalist Carol Huynh will be in Prince George to guest coach a free introductory youth wrestling camp.
Dennis McCarthy, the Head Coach of the Prince George Wrestling Club, told My PG Now the camp will cover “the fundamentals of wrestling basics. The idea is everyone learns a good stance, a couple moves, and hopefully they will want to try it later in the year.”
“It is an honour to have [Huynh],” McCarthy said. “Her parents live in Prince George, when I found out she was coming home this summer I contacted her immediately and asked if she would put a camp on for us.”
According to McCarthy, between 15-20 elementary school aged wrestlers are a part of the local wrestling club, numbers he is hoping go up after this camp.
“Wrestling is a great sport, a great foundation for other sports,” he added. “I really encourage young kids that love to wrestle brothers and sisters at home to come try it. Their parents can stop yelling at them for wrestling in the living room, they can try it on the mat.”
It will be held at John McInnes Secondary on July 13th from 11:15 to 12:30.
