One man in critical condition; four police officers injured following incident in Dawson Creek

The BC RCMP has notified the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO BC) of an incident in Dawson Creek where one man sustained serious injuries.

It happened this morning (Thursday) around 8:00 as RCMP responded to a complaint of individuals in possession of firearms and bear spray in Dawson Creek.

Officers were on scene immediately and took three individuals into custody.

According to police, one man fled and, after a brief foot pursuit, was apprehended outside a convenience store.

He reportedly was combative with police as he was being arrested.

Shortly after being taken into custody, the man went into medical distress and lost consciousness.

He was given medical care at the scene and later taken to hospital for further treatment.

He is reported to be in critical condition.

Four police officers sustained injuries with three of them requiring medical attention.

North District RCMP’s Regional General Investigation Section out of Prince George has been assigned the lead role in the investigation of the original weapons complaint.

Anyone with information or video footage who was in the area of the 800 block of 104 Avenue (in Dawson Creek) is asked to call police at 250-784-3700.

The IIO BC is investigating police actions in the incident and as a result no further information will be released by police.
