Just 40 minutes after opening its doors for the first time on Friday (June 14th), Prince George RCMP responded to a report of shoplifting at Buy Low Foods in Parkwood Place on 15th avenue.
According to police, over the next three days, officers responded to twelve reports of shoplifting at the grocery store, involving a total of thirteen people and representing just over $450 in stolen merchandise.
“While most of the thefts were for small dollar value items, several people attempted to steal larger amounts of merchandise and were arrested by police. Two people were arrested and released on Undertakings with conditions not to return to the store and one person was held in custody until he could attend court. Charges of possession of a weapon, theft under $5000 and fail to comply with a release order have been approved in that particular investigation,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.
Cooper added that many of the suspects identified were previously known to police.
