NHL: (5th game in the Stanley Cup Final)

Edmonton Oilers  5  Florida Panthers  3

Connor McDavid put on a clinic with two goals and two assists for his second consecutive four-point game.

He set an NHL record for the most points in a 2-game span in the Stanley Cup Final with 8.

The 27-year-old McDavid has 42 points in the playoffs, 4th best all-time, behind Wayne Gretzky (47 points, 1984-85), Mario Lemieux (44 points, 1990-91) and Gretzky (43 points, 1987-88).

Edmonton was outshot 32-24 but enjoyed period leads of 1-0 and 4-2.

The Panthers still lead the Stanley Cup Final 3-2, although the Oilers have won the last two games by scoring a total of 13 goals.

Game 6 will be played Friday night at 5:15 in Edmonton.

Earlier results in the series: Florida won the first three games by scores of 3-0, 4-1 and 4-3 while Edmonton got a convincing 8-1 victory in Game 4.

The Calgary Flames have traded goalie Jacob Markstrom to the New Jersey Devils for 23-year-old defenseman Kevin Bahl and a 2025 first-round pick, which is top-10 protected.

 

PG Cougars:

Las Vegas will be the site for the 2024 NHL Draft on Friday, June 28th (starting at 4:30 PM) and Saturday the 29th (beginning at 8:30 AM).

Three forwards with the Prince George Cougars are listed in the Central Scouting final rankings: Terik Parascak is 15th, Ondrej Becher is 69th and Hunter Laing 86th among North American skaters.

PG Spruce Kings:

The Prince George Spruce Kings will have their 2024-25 BCHL regular season home opener  on September 27th against the Coquitlam Express.

The Spruce Kings, who play 54 regular season games, will compete in the Coastal East Division (formally called the Mainland) along side the Chilliwack Chiefs, Coquitlam Express Langley Rivermen and defending champion Surrey Eagles.

MLB:

Baseball legend Willie Mays, known as the “Say Hey Kid”, has passed away. He was 93.

The center fielder was baseball’s oldest living Hall of Famer.

Over 22 seasons, mostly with the New York/San Francisco Giants, Mays batted .302, hit 660 home runs, won 12 Gold Gloves and was twice named MVP.

Boston Red Sox  4  Toronto Blue Jays  3

The (35-38) Jays are 2-3 on a 6-game homestand that concludes tonight (Wednesday 4:07) against the (39-35) Red Sox as Boston goes for a 3-game sweep.

Week 3 of the CFL season begins Thursday night at 4:30 with (1-0) Ottawa at (2-0) Montreal.

The (1-1) B.C. Lions visit the (0-2) Winnipeg Blue Bombers Friday night at 5:30.
