PG Child Development Centre raffling vacation package to support equipment program

The Prince George Child Development Centre is raising money for its equipment loan program by giving away a trip for two to Disney World – or anywhere WestJet flies.

Darrell Roze, the CDC’s Executive Director, told My PG Now the winner will get two WestJet tickets and $3,850.

“We calculated the cost to head to Disney World, stay in a nice hotel for four nights, and any additional costs,” Roze said. “If you don’t want to go to Disney World you can go to many, many other places.”

The money raised will go towards equipment for kids with developmental challenges.

“We have an equipment loan program,” he explained. “When children need equipment it is unclear if it will work well for them, so we provide loans. Some children grow quite quickly and outgrow their equipment very fast… they can come get a larger size.”

Even when equipment is funded by the government, Roze said it can take months for it to get to the families that need it.

“We support about 1,000 children a year. It is about one in five preschool children here.”

Roze thanked those who have purchased tickets already, saying the CDC is very excited with the sales so far.

The prize will be drawn on Thursday (June 20).
