Rain, cool conditions helping douse wildfire threats in PG Fire Centre

All is quiet on the wildfire front within the Prince George Fire Centre as of late.

Only two new starts were located over the weekend, one of which was extinguished while the other is under control.

Fire Information Officer, Pedro Roldan-Delgado told Vista Radio even though not a lot is happening at the moment, crews staying sharp behind the scenes.

“When they are on days off or when there are not as many wildfires, they would be prepping their trucks, getting gear ready and, doing training or fuel management throughout the zone.”

Roldan-Delgado added the rain has been beneficial.

“Any kind of precipitation we do receive on the fire line or within the fire centre is great, it prolongs the drying trend that we are seeing and it also helps reduce the fire activity. It would help crews able to go in and get some more work done with less fire activity.”

Province-wide, there are 102 wildfires, 94 of which are in the Prince George Fire Centre.

Fire activity remains concentrated in the Northeastern corner as the Parker Lake fire, two kilometres southeast of Fort Nelson is currently Under Control. The Patry Creek is the lone blaze of note and is currently Out of Control.
