Williams Lake Motorcyclist traveling across Canada to raise PTSD awareness

– Files from Zachary Barrowcliff, My Cariboo Now

A motorcyclist from Williams Lake will be raising money and awareness for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Doug Hamm will be joining a group called The Rolling Barrage in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and travel by motorcycle all the way to Vancouver.

Hamm says he heard about the group through Facebook back in 2018.

“It always says something you may be interested in, and here was The Rolling Barrage and I’ve never heard of them even.” says Hamm.

“I got looking into it a bit and realized they’re going to be in Kelowna very shortly, the ride had already commenced, so I said I’m going to ride down to Kelowna, meet them, and do the last leg into Vancouver.”

Hamm added the cause for this ride is for PTSD, and he says those who have it get very little help from the government or to even help enter the real world, but says he can’t think of a better way to enjoy being on the road than to help other people.

The hope for him is to raise $7,000 in the Cariboo, which can be done on The Rolling Barrage’s website, or can reach out to Hamm through Facebook.

This year, he’ll fly out of Kamloops on July 23rd, arrive in Calgary, then fly to St. John’s.
