The BC RCMP has notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of an incident in Mackenzie where one man died.
On Saturday afternoon (June 1) around 2:00, Mackenzie RCMP received a report of a man trying to cash a fraudulent cheque at a bank.
Officers attended and arrested the man.
While escorting him outside, a struggle ensued and the man reportedly produced a weapon.
According to an RCMP news release, one officer discharged their firearm striking the man.
He was transported to hospital by Emergency Health Services where he was pronounced deceased.
The IIO is investigating police actions in the incident.
With the matter under investigation, no further information will be released by police.
