WHL:

The Prince George Cougars and Portland Winterhawks will have had a full week to prepare by the time the puck drops this weekend to start their WHL Western Conference Final.

The first two games, which are sold-out, will be at CN Centre Friday night at 7:00 and Saturday night at 6:00.

The series will shift to Portland in the 2-3-2 format for Games 3, 4 and 5 on Monday, Wednesday and if needed Thursday of next week.

If Games 6 and 7 are necessary they will be played in P.G. on Monday, May 6th and Tuesday, May 7th.

The Cougars will compete in the WHL Western Conference Final for the first time in 17 years and fourth time overall.

The Winterhawks are in the Western Final for the first time in nine years.

Prince George is 8-1 and Portland is 8-0 in the playoffs.

The two teams split their four regular season meetings, each winning once at home and once on the road.

The WHL Eastern Conference Final also opens Friday night with the Moose Jaw Warriors at the Saskatoon Blades.

PG Spruce Kings:

Forward Mason Loewen has committed to play the 2024-25 season with the Prince George Spruce Kings.

The 6’0, 185 pound Loewen spent the last two seasons with the Cariboo Cougars of the BC Elite Hockey League.

In 70 games, he notched 80 points, including 42 goals.
