The UNBC Timberwolves capped off a memorable 2023-24 season with their annual Awards Banquet.
Brityn Hinsche of Williams Lake and the women’s soccer team captured the Timberwolves Female Athlete of the Year while five-year men’s basketball star Spencer Ledoux was named the Male Athlete of the Year.
Hinsche recorded a staggering 128 saves during the USPORTS soccer season, the second-highest total in the national, trailing only Madison Priebe of the Winnipeg Wesman.
The Williams Lake native also ranked first in games played and started while sitting fourth in Canada in minutes played with 1260.
Six times in a span of 14 games, Hinsche made 10-or-more saves. Her biggest single-game save total came on October 7th when she made 15 saves against the eventual league champs from UBC.
UNBC’s women’s soccer team finished 0-13-1, scoring a paltry three goals.
Ledoux on the other hand, capped off an incredible five-year career at UNBC averaging a team-best 15.8 points-per-game, and the fifth-best field goal percentage in all of Canada West (53.2 percent).
His 829 career regular season points rank him fourth all-time in Timberwolves scoring while his 379 career Canada West field goals are second only to Tyrell Laing.
In addition, twenty-five individual awards were handed out while an additional 43 students were recognized as Academic All Canadians and as soon-to-be graduates of UNBC.
The Male Rookie of the Year award went to defender Koss Nystedt (men’s soccer) while guard Viktoriia Filatova’s (women’s basketball) remarkable first season helped her earn Female Rookie of the Year honours.
