The BC Wildfire season continues to punish the Province.
Heres Fire Information Officer Kevin Skrepnek with some of the latest numbers:
“Since April 1st we have responded to 1,722 fires across BC; burning an estimated 292,000 hectares. Total cost to date estimated at $219 million dollars.”
However, Skrepnek says only $214 million was spent at this same time last year, with nearly 311,000 hectares destroyed.
He says currently there are 202 Wildfires burning across the province, with 155 of those sparked by lightning.
He also added that all Ontario and Australian personnel have since been released, with a few South African crews also expected to leave within the next week.
