WHL:

The Prince George Cougars have just eight regular season games left, three on home ice with two of them this weekend.

The Cougars host the (29-27-4) Vancouver Giants Friday night at 7:00 and Saturday night at 6:00 before playing five straight games on the road.

P.G. will end its regular season on Saturday, March 23rd against the Kamloops Blazers on Retro Night with a Mega 50/50 jackpot to begin at $50,000.

Proceeds go to the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.

The (41-15-1-3) Cougars are riding an 11-game point streak and lead the Western Conference by one point over the (41-15-2-1) Portland Winterhawks.

The (39-17-7) Vancouver Canucks continue a 3-game road trip tonight (Tuesday) at 7:30 against the (31-19-10) Kings in LA.

The New Jersey Devils have fired head coach Lindy Ruff and replaced him on an interim basis with Devils assistant and former Vancouver Canucks head coach Travis Green.

The (30-27-4) Devils, who host the Florida Panthers tonight, are eight points out of a playoff spot with 21 games left.

BCHL:

The Prince George Spruce Kings visit the Trail Smoke Eaters on Friday and the West Kelowna Warriors on Saturday.

With eight games left in the regular season, the (14-29-3) Spruce Kings are last in the 8-team Interior Division, nine points behind the (19-25-2) Cranbrook Bucks who are in 7th.

BC Elite Hockey League:

The U18 Cariboo Cougars will start the playoffs at home against the Vancouver North West Hawks at Kin 1.

Games in the best-of-three quarterfinals are set for Friday afternoon at 3:45, Saturday afternoon at 2:00 and if necessary Sunday morning at 11:45.

The (26-8-2) U18 Cougars finished the regular season 3rd in the 9-team BC Elite Hockey league.

The (13-20-0-3) Hawks ended up in 6th place.

Para Biathlon:

The Para Biathlon World Championships begin Wednesday at the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club.

Opening Ceremonies will be held tonight (Tuesday) starting at 6:30 at the P.G. Conference and Civic Centre.

185 athletes from 20 countries will participate over the 12 days of competition.

High School Basketball:

The BC School Sports Boys Basketball Provincial Championships begin Wednesday and continue through Saturday at the Langley Events Centre.

The 64 teams, divided into four championship tournaments, will play 128 games over the four days.

Cedars Christian, Fort St James and McBride compete in 1A.

Nechako Valley is entered in 2A.

College Heights participates in 3A.

PGSS is taking part in 4A.

None of the North Central teams finished in the top five at the 2024 BC School Sports Girls Basketball Championships in Langley.

College Heights placed 7th and Duchess Park ended up 11th in AAA.
Cedars Christian was 7th and Bulkley Valley Christian 15th in 1A.
Nechako Valley came 16th (last) in AA.

NBA:

The (23-38) Toronto Raptors conclude a 4-game homestand tonight (Tuesday 4:30) against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Curling:

The 2024 Montana’s Brier is taking place in Regina.

18 teams, including two-time defending champion Brad Gushue (Canada from St. John’s, Newfoundland), are playing a complete eight-game round-robin within their 9-team pool.

Gushue is 3-2 after five games.

B.C. is also 3-2 after five games.

There are no more unbeaten teams.

The top three teams in each pool advance to the playoffs.

The final will be played on Sunday with the winner to represent Canada at the 2024 World Men’s Curling Championship on March 30-April 7 in Schaffhausen, Switzerland.
