Ottawa increases armed forces reserve numbers

Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced today the number of Armed Forces Reserves will be expanded.

Conservative MP Candidate for the Prince George-Peace River riding, Bob Zimmer says the expansion will allow them to react quicker to certain issues.

“It’s going to increase the number of reservists in Canada from 24 thousand to 30 thousand essentially what it’s going to do is to respond to different issues in Canada, we have a large nation and we want our reserves to be strong and the numbers that we need to do a good job.”

Zimmer adds it is all part of a certain strategy.

“Just goes to our theme I guess for safety and security for Canadians to make sure that we feel safe in Canada, there’s willing people that want to volunteer and help out in the reserve that are willing to commit to serving Canada and to increase that will only help us all.”

Improved training for reservists include responding to domestic emergencies such as floods and forest fires.
