Nechako-Lakes MLA John Rustad announced a new revenue-sharing agreement between Huckleberry Mine and four First Nations.
Rustad says the agreements are designed to share profits from new or newly expanded mines to improve participation by First Nations in the mining sector and to support mining operations.
Mining is the number one employer of Aboriginal people across Canada, according to Rustad, so the revenue sharing agreements are a natural opportunity which supports the region.
He says the revenue will be portioned between the four Nations and will be dependent on copper prices and production from the mine.
