Registration deadline for 2024 Iceman looming

The 37th annual Prince George Iceman is taking place in a little over a week, registration for winter warriors closes on Tuesday.

“It is a relay that includes skiing, a 10k run, a skate, a 5k run, and a swim,” Kylie Peake, an Iceman Spokesperson, told My PG Now.

The relay can be completed in teams of any size, or by extra daring individuals.

Peake said 15-20 soloists sign up each year, and around 400 people total take part.

Right now there are only around 250 signed up to participate.

The ski and skate portions are weather-dependent. Last year’s event went forward without

the skate because the Ice Oval was not in good enough condition.

The temperatures well above freezing at the end of January are a concern, and something Peake said the team is keeping an eye on.

“We are hoping for snow, and encouraging people to continually look at our website for any updates,” she said. “There is talk about altering the ski to a different route depending on the snow conditions at Otway.”

The Ice Oval is searching for volunteers to try and get the track ready for next weekend. You can read more about that here.
