Over young 300 skiers are on their way to compete in Prince George this weekend.
Athletes from ages 7-18 will compete in the Teck BC Cup at the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club on Saturday and Sunday (January 27 and 28).
According to the club, the event “encourages the development of new talent and fosters a sense of competition and camaraderie among young athletes,” and “serves as a crucial stepping stone for those aspiring to compete at the national level”
In a release, John Aalberg, Chief of Competitions for the Teck BC Cup, 2024 Para Biathlon World Championships, and 2024 Para Nordic World Cup Finals, said “The Teck BC Cup is where future Nordic skiing champions often begin their journey. It’s a fantastic platform for the youth to not only gain valuable race experience but also to set their sights on higher levels of competition. We are proud to support these young athletes as they pursue their dreams.”
The event will also serve as a trail run for course volunteers ahead of the two international para-ski competitions that are fast approaching in March.
The Teck BC Cup will run from 9-3 on Saturday and 9-1 on Sunday. Both days are free for the public to attend.
