After a green Christmas and a warm and rainy start to January, snow is a very welcome sight for the Hart Ski Hill.
Tanya Fearon, a Hart Ski Hill spokesperson, said the slopes have been jam-packed since they were able to open earlier in the month.
“We usually start in the beginning of December. Missing most of December puts us back three or four weeks,” Fearon said. “Last Tuesday when we had that first big snowfall, we were lined up all throughout the hill and in the lodge.”
“Last year we had a really long season, to come off into that was a little disheartening,” she continued. “Seeing all this snow come down has lifted all our spirits.”
The temperature in Prince George is supposed to stay firmly below freezing for the remainder of the week, with more snow scattered throughout – ideal conditions for the hill.
While the hill is packed, Fearon asked skiers to be cognizant of others and their surroundings, and to dress in layers in case they get too warm or cold on the hill.
The hill is also asking skiers to carpool if possible to help save space in their parking lot.
