City crews expect snow removal operations to wrap up by Friday night

Manager of Roads and Fleet Jordan Wiseman believes Prince George will likely see around 10 to 12 centimetres fall by the time this winter storm wraps up this evening (Tuesday).

Wiseman and snow removal crews are projecting this to be a Priority One and Two event, focusing clearing efforts downtown and on many of the major routes and roadways.

“Crews are busy in at least reaching a priority one and priority two thresholds. We will go from there but the snow is forecasted to stop around 6 o’clock (this evening) with accumulations right around 10 to 12 centimetres by the time this little storm is done.”

“Right now, we have crews monitoring where we are picking up windrows from the last snowfall.”

As for last week’s frigid deep freeze, Wiseman noted it did pose some challenges for clean-up crews.

“The minus thirty-five and minus forty doesn’t play into our end. It does cause us some challenges as well as our equipment and contractors. The city is very important to have a fleet department that is on top of that as breakdowns were at a minimum.”

He anticipates clean-up efforts to conclude around Friday evening.
