Mayor Yu to report on his monthly expenses

Prince George Mayor Simon Yu says he plans to increase the transparency of his Mayor activities.

According to a report that will go before Prince George City Council at tomorrow’s (Monday) meeting, Yu said he plans to do so by providing a monthly “Mayor’s Report” to be included in the Council agenda packages.

This would also be available through the City’s website.

“Additional transparency of monthly reporting will provide the public with more access and scrutiny of expenditures undertaken by the Mayor, while also providing for additional accountability,” Yu wrote in the report.

“Reporting out the accumulated expenses as a percentage of the annual budget will also increase accountability as the public will be aware when I have spent close to the budget for the year.”

Yu added the intention is to supplement this information with regular verbal updates at Council meetings as a matter of best practice.

“This will inform the public of the type of meetings the Mayor is undertaking on behalf of the City.”

His decision follows a CBC report that revealed Yu spent more than $18,000 on travel, accommodations, meals and expenses from November 7th, 2022, to September 28th, 2023.

Other items on the agenda include an RCMP investigation into missing gravel and the revision of business licence fees for retail cannabis.

The full agenda can be found here.
