An incident at the Brucejack gold mine northwest of Smithers has resulted in a worker fatality.
This was confirmed yesterday (Wednesday) in a news release from the Newmont Corperation who own and operate the mine.
“Our thoughts are with the person’s family, friends and colleagues and we are offering our full support at this difficult time,” they said in the release.
They added operations have been suspended and the mine closed while investigations are carried out internally and by relevant authorities.
After investigations conclude, Newmont hopes to develop a re-start plan to support safe operations going forward.
This is the fourth fatality recorded at the Brucejack site since opening in 2017.
