Wildfire activity throughout the Province has been substantially high so far in 2015.
Fire Information officer Navi Saini says the total number of fires that have taken place as of April the 1st, sit at 1,314. Which, in total have burned through just over 295,000 hectares:
“Comparatively speaking, last year at this time we had responded to 670 wildfires that had burned through 182,960 hectares”
Saini says lightning activity has also been far higher this year, with the vast majority of these fires set off by lightning strikes.
Provincially, 22 new fires started up on Wednesday.
