According to the Nurses union, the North East region of BC will need plenty of skilled nurses in the coming years.
North East Region Chair Ronnie Lokken says a recent arbitration win means that nurses in the region will be able to specialize their training, whether its in the ICU, NIC-U, or ER:
“Before the arbitration everything was in smaller sites, was in house training. Now with this new $5 million dollars from the arbitration the nurses will be trained across the Province with the same training”
The average age of a nurse in the region is sitting at 48, meaning that at least 2,000 jobs will need filling in this region alone, with nearly 25,000 expected Province wide by 2022.
