Annual “Ring of Fire” phenomenon bringing a splash of colour to Goodsir Nature Park

An annual phenomenon that brings all sorts of colour to Little Goodsir Lake is expected to happen this weekend.

A flower growing around the lake in Goodsir Nature Park will change colours, creating what Goodsir Nature Park Developer Jim Good calls “the Ring of Fire.”

“It’s a fairly common shrub that grows in this part of the country called the pink spirea, it’s a member of the rose family,” Good explained.

“Each year where it’s semi-aquatic around the margin of Little Goodsir Lake, all the leaves turn every shade of red, pink and orange.”

Good expects the colour to change this weekend.

“I’ve been watching it closely, I believe this coming weekend, it’s going to be prime.”

Good said this happens for about three to five days.
